Moving in The Annex
The Annex is one of the oldest housing stocks in the city and it moves like it. Victorian and Edwardian semis with narrow original staircases, tight landings and doorways built to a different standard - and most of them split into apartments, so the move is often one unit out of a house of five.
The single biggest question here is whether your furniture will physically turn on the stairs. We measure the awkward turns before the day, take doors off hinges where needed, and tell you in advance if a piece genuinely will not fit rather than discovering it halfway up.
Then there is access. Many Annex houses have no driveway and rely on permit street parking or a rear laneway, and the neighbourhood empties and refills around U of T term dates, when everything books out weeks ahead.
